Yamaha XJ, FZ & FJ Range

This page covers the XJ, FZ & FJ range of motorcycles that have ELECTRONIC IGNITIONS with electronic advance. We cover models built from approximately 1982 to 1987 (when analogue electronic ignitions were phased out and replaced with digital ignitions ) Note some models went into the 90's with this type of ignition system eg XJ 900.

We have listed the year the model started and ended approximately with this ignition type but some countries could have earlier start and later stop dates.

If your model is not listed, we may still be able to help as Yamaha seemed to run a common ignition unit on several different models. We use the serial number of the ignition unit on Yamaha as oppposed to the bike model no. for identification. The identification no. will start with TIDxx-xx and have 4 numbers after it eg. TID14-21

Note:
Including 1983 FJ 1100 with the vaccum advance system incorperated into the ignition unit ie: it has a vacumm hose going into back the unit.
